Yeah, not in terms of the difficulty level but the demand. Forensic psychologists often work in prisons and police stations (each police station would probably have either one or none and prisons very few) so there really aren’t very many though they are often portrayed in movies a lot. It would definitely be easier to find a job as a clinical or educational psychologist who works in clincs/schools/in some government organisation.

Many psychologists doing in clinical work have an MS degree or PhD or an DSW ((Doctorate on social work) Ifhe has a OPhd or DSW, he certainly ius a doctor, although he is not a medical doctor.

My son in law’s father spent a career in the Air Force as a psychologist. He has a master’s degree in science in Psychology.

Psychologists can do a lot of the counseling that mght be done by a psychiatrist. They , however, cannot presacribe drugs. That must be done by a doctor ( MD-type doctor,that is)

Ok so I was out at a local bar with a friend of mine last night, and a couples girls from my university program showed up. I have one or two classes with them but we are all in second year and theres alot of students in each year and neither me or my friend ever talked to either of the two girls before. So anyways I got up with my friend to go out have a smoke and as i passed the bar one of the girls looked at me and said oh hey hows it going, and I was so surprised since like I said we had never talked before not because there was never the chance just because we had no friends in common never worked in class together, etc… so I said you know, not bad how about you? As I passed by I shoulda probably stopped to talk but like I said I was pretty taken aback and just did a that good smile and kept walking after she said good. Anyways I kinda realised I goofed after I got outside, but about an hour later, I went out for another smoke with my friend and she was out having a smoke with two of her friends. When she saw me come out – I should note we kinda kept making eye contact throughout the night, nothing creepy just glances lol- but anyways ya she came over and started talking to me, just hey *my name* hows it going, do you remember my name =P sadly I didnt I hate when that happens but I just apologized and said its hard to remember three years worth of peoples names as Im taking cources in all three years of my program lol, I hate when that happens XP but im in nursing so its like theres 2 guys in the program and everyone knows your name but theres like 80 girls in each year so its impossible to remember all their names lmao. But she told me her name laughed it off, and we started talking about how her long weekends going, what shes been up to, etc… just chatting and then her friends left to go inside to get their stuff and head out so she said that was her ride and left and said shed see me in class. So Im not sure if she was flirting with me or just chatting because she knew me from school. I’m trying to decide how I should act when I see her in class, if i should smile and say hi, or go over and chat with her for a bit, mention how they left pretty early and I’ll be back with my friend next weekend if they’re around they should come join us. Opinions?

There is no such MBA. Universities don’t grant MBA in hospital management, or MBA in finance, or MBA in marketing. They grant the degree Master in Business Administration, or they offer the MS in finance, MS in marketing, etc. The MBA is a general degree preparing students for management positions in any level of a business, up to CEO. MBA students study accounting, finance, marketing, management, statistics, economics, strategy, policy, and other courses. Many MBA programs offer concentrations in these and many other fields, but that amounts to only 2-3 courses in your chosen field in the second year of study. Many students avoid a concentration and take a variety of elective subjects to gain a broader background. You may be able to find programs with a hospital management concentration. Most MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree, but some accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience.

The MBA is not like an MS degree that concentrates study in a single field and prepares students for high level staff or research positions. The MS typically requires an undergraduate education in the field in which you want the MS, or a closely related field. A finance major does not get an MS in chemistry, and a biology major does not get an MS in accounting. If you want to specialize in a particular field other than business administration, such as finance, marketing, operations management, human resource management, or a non-business field such as public health, or public administration, you should get an MS degree in that specialization.

Actual novels are few, about this subject but Dickens has many of his books laced with accounts of Poor Houses and Hostels or Hospitals.

The need for charity
London in the eighteenth century was a swirling mass of contrasts. A rowdy hedonistic, gin-swilling public rubbed shoulders with gentlefolk keen to do good work. One of the worst problems affected by the social conditions in London in the early eighteenth century was the large numbers of children either entirely abandoned or thrown on the tender mercies of the parish – illegitimate children were handed over to parish officers for a lump sum.

But London was late in providing welfare for these children in comparison with many other European cities. Rome, for example, already had its Conservatorio della Ruota, founded by Pope Innocent III in the thirteenth century, and Venice had La Pietà, a fourteenth-century orphanage for girls. Apathy, puritan morality and disapproval of illegitimacy (the usual reason for deserted children) produced inaction in Britain. The only establishment dealing with foundlings as well as legitimate orphans was Christ’s Hospital, founded in 1552, but by 1676 the illegitimate were prohibited.

During the 1720s and 30s poor children were dying at an alarming rate – medicine was not winning the battle against disease and death after decades of severe epidemics (typhus, dysentery, measles, influenza) and the Gin Craze (11.2 million gallons of spirits consumed in a year in London – roughly seven gallons per adult) was sweeping the nation with disastrous consequences. And in general, the only provision for illegitimate babies was the parish poorhouses or, from 1722, the workhouses where they frequently died of neglect. Mortality rates were extremely high: over 74% of children born in London died before they were five. In workhouses the death rate increased to over 90%.

The Foundling
The Foundling Hospital was one of the sights to which foreigners were taken. This hospital, built in Lamb’s Conduit Fields, so that its inmates might enjoy pure country air, was one of the beautiful things of London and it lasted until the philistine authorities of our own day suffered it to be destroyed. As early as 1713 Addison, in an essay in the Guardian, had called attention to the plight of unwanted infants, who were often exposed to die upon the highway. It was not, however, till 1742 that, thanks to the exertions of Captain Thomas Coram, a place of refuge to be called the Foundling Hospital was built by public subscriptions. Three of Hogarth’s pictures, which that great painter had presented to the Hospital, hung upon its walls; Handel had given an organ for the chapel and every year a benefit of his oratorio, The Messiah, which he conducted himself.

Bedlam
Bedlam, incredible as it may seem, was one of the sights of London. The gentle, kindly Sophie de la Roche paints it in softened if not glowing colours. There were, she said, no chains or straps, though the worst of the patients wore strait-jackets, which were tied with cords to the corners of the rooms. These rooms were bright and comfortable and the inmates were encouraged to read and occupy themselves quietly. Sophie found Mrs. Nicholson, who had tried to murder George III, reading Shakespeare, and asking for some more quill pens. The man at that time in charge of the asylum was Dr. Monroe, who insisted on fresh air and cleanliness, and that the patients should be treated kindly. “This” he told Sophie “is a fever of the mind, tender, gentle handling is the only cure for this.” Unfortunately very few doctors agreed with Monroe and when he was not at Bedlam things were very different. De Saussure saw dangerous maniacs chained and terrible to behold. “On holidays” he says “numerous persons of both sexes, but belonging generally to the lower classes, visit the hospital and amuse themselves by watching these unfortunate wretches who often give them cause for laughter.” Von Uffenbach says that “in Holland such places are managed with far greater propriety “.

Question by Landloard: Where I can take Anatomy and Micro besides the Community College?
Is anyone knows where I can take Anatomy and Microbiology cources besides the Community Colleges so later they would be credited towards the Nursing program at the Community Colleges? Any area, bay area, Sacramento or anywhere near by Im willing to travel.
The reason i want to take those cources not in community college is because in other schools it might be much faster and I can find better teachers at other schools.

I am a bit confused…by what you are looking for -not a college offering these courses? Basically the only sure way to take a course that will transfer to the nursing program in through a accredited college & the CC is the cheapest alternative for that, the Cal State & the UC system both may offer those, but far more $ $ than the CC. I don’t really know of any freestanding places that would teach those classes that would transfer. Other than colleges, not many other places teach individual classes….

Edit: Microbiology and Anatomy are only 1 semester-where ever you take it, so I doubt a UC/Cal State would be any faster than a CC. All you need for nursing is a general fairly intro course, so honestly, a CC (especially one with a nursing program) will teach you all you need particularly in micro. I actually re-took anatomy at the CC myself because it was a better, more focused class than the one at the university (I was at Cal State LA & USC). Don’t brush off the CC system.
